Thursday, May 30th, 2013 Focus: I choose to connect with and express my true talents and abilities, in service to others.

Everyone seeks greater happiness. Yet few can claim they are truly happy. Does happiness arise by attaining a certain status, or by finding the love of your life? All the great masters and religious scriptures tell us happiness can only be found within. Nothing outside of your Self can bring genuine lasting happiness.

If you chase happiness in the things of this world, you will eventually become disillusioned. No matter how much stuff you acquire, how much you are admired or loved, how much money, status, or prestige you get, how famous you are, how many accolades you receive, how many children you raise, how much you travel, how thin and beautiful you are, how expensive your house, car, designer clothing, and diamond jewelry, you will never find lasting happiness from any of these.

The only real happiness comes from inner contentment, acquired from living a genuine, purposeful, and meaningful life, for the good of all. When you connect with who you really are, and express your true talents and abilities, in service to others, then you realize true, lasting contentment.

Tuesday, May 28th, 2013 Focus: My reaction to stressful events plays an important role in how I am affected.

The immune system functions poorly after periods of severe stress. Most of us would agree that chronic, unrelenting stress can lead to dis-stress, or bad stress. This can lead to continued unaddressed imbalances, which can then lead to illness and dis-ease.

Our reactions to stressful events play an important role in how they affect us. This is why it’s so important to meet change when we are calm and at rest. It’s vital to stop and cultivate awareness as much as possible so we are aware of how our life is being influenced.

Change is inevitable, and balance is possible through awareness. Small, well-matched tools used intentionally can promote balance and prevent illness and disease.

Focus: I am rediscovering myself and discovering the free spirit that I am.

When you begin the process of facing and dealing with your past, you may be surprised at where the process leads you. Embrace the uncertainty that presents itself, don’t be afraid to veer left, then right, or do a flip flop. It is progress toward rediscovering yourself and discovering the free spirit you are.

If you temporarily avoid an issue because it may be inaccessible or too painful, that’s okay. It will re-present itself when you are ready, so there is no need to force yourself through the process. Your spirit will evolve in whatever fashion is right for you.

Let it flow and just allow yourself to be – and all you have become will slowly emerge. This will to allow you to remove the toxicity, the pretense, the fear, and the resistance. Soon, you will feel what it’s like to just be yourself, in touch with your unique nature, and prepared to plant and harvest your new garden.

Friday, May 24th, 2013 Focus: I choose to replace “perfectionism” with “permission to be human”.

Life is good

Life is good

A way of preventing worry is to stop being such a perfectionist. You don’t have to do everything flawlessly.

It’s mainly in the mind that you worry about doing everything just right. I’ve learned to replace perfectionism with permission to be human.

I’ve always had artistic talent, and when I take drawing classes, I don’t set out to create a masterpiece — I just draw to the best of my ability. I’m content being in the present so that I enjoy quality time with myself.

Monday, May 20th, 2013 Focus: I look for the good and forgive all the rest.

When you find yourself in a difficult situation, you need to stop and think. Remember, it will control you or you will control it, so take control. Harvest the good (look for the good in the situation), and forgive all the rest. Let the rest go.

Sometimes tragedy will just grab a hold of our mind and won’t let go. We have to let it go. We have to look for the good; there’s good in everything. The more you look, the more you will find.

Look for the good and forgive all the rest. If a bad thought arises, just forgive it and let it go. Of course, bad thoughts will come. You may pick them up from outside sources or they may originate from you, but when they do arise, don’t spend any time on them or give any room in your mind to them. Just release them.

Sunday, May 12th, 2013 Focus: I look at everything as if for the first time.

Look at everything you pass as if for the first time. Make it a continuous attitude. Touch everything as if for the first time. What will happen?

If you can do this, you will be freed from your past. The burden, the depth, the dirtiness, the accumulated experiences — you will be freed from them. Every moment, move from the past. Do not allow it to enter within you; do not allow it to be carried — leave it. Look at everything as if for the first time.

This is a great technique to help you to be freed from the past. Then you are constantly in the present, and by and by you will have an affinity with the present. Then everything will be new. Then you will be able to understand Heraclitus’ saying that you cannot step twice in the same river. You cannot see a person twice — the same person — because nothing is static. Everything is river-like, flowing and flowing and flowing.

Saturday, May 11th, 2013 Focus: In any conflict, I use communication and compromise in order to reach an acceptable outcome.

When confronted with a problem, you may be able to talk your way out of it if you keep this in mind — that the people who initiate the conflict most likely don’t want to be in that situation either. Find out the real cause of the disturbance and you may avoid serious trouble.

People, as well as countries, are often in conflict. The clumsiest way to settle the matter is a fistfight between people or a war between nations. Physical confrontations are costly and ineffective, and generally solve nothing at all.

Try to learn your opponent’s viewpoint. Communicate and compromise until you can reach an acceptable outcome. After all, any fool can start a fight. To resolve a conflict without violence is an art, and a sign of wisdom.
